1990s Christian Lacroix Stylised Cross Necklace

£1,150.00

Fashion designer Christian Lacroix established his own couture house in 1975 and launched his first jewellery line in 1989. Lacroix’s designs drew on many of the same references as his couture clothing. His jewellery is opulent, outlandish and has a stylised handmade feel. Sculpted from gold- or silver-toned alloy, the colours of his collections were echoed in the vibrant tones of the enamel and glass stones he often used.

This large gold cross pendant appears, on closer inspection, to be crafted from interwoven, organically shaped strands of metal; twisted and curved until they form a decadent cross. These erratic strands are woven into a circle at the middle, which holds the form of the cross in place. The exuberant, avant-garde style is typical of the designer, who leaves his stamp on the rear - here, an oval plaque is embossed with the label’s “CL” logo alongside “Christian Lacroix” and “Made in France”. This piece is made to be worn as a brooch or a necklace. It has a long clasp across the back which is secured with a C-clasp and allows the wearer to clip it onto the lapel of their jacket or onto their favourite dress. There is also a hook on the rear which attaches to a removable chain. This chain is also composed of gold-tone alloy metal. It is formed from 14 long gold-tone beads; no two alike, they have the same uneven, organic surface of the cross pendant - this finish being a signature of the brand. This chain fastens with a chunky hook-and-eye clasp.

This pendant and chain are in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. There is no wear to the gold and the alloy is not scratched or marked. Please check the below measurements to ensure the best fit.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.

Can I bring anyone with me?
