Y2K Thierry Mugler Couture Aqua Lamé Halter Top and Skirt
This spectacular Y2K lamé top and skirt ensemble were couture crafted by Manfred Thierry Mugler circa 1998 to 2001. Designed by the master of empowering, hyper-feminine tailoring, the ensemble twists around the body in a manner that recalls Grecian draping and the fluid, glittering designs that the patrons of 1970s nightclub Studio 54 wore on the dancefloor. The fabric is dazzling; a lightweight silk lamé with an aqua hue, detailed with a subtle pink-bronze ombré stripe. The attention-grabbing look is composed of two parts: a skin-flashing top and maxi-skirt. The top is tailored almost as though a lamé scarf has been expertly twisted around the body. It has a halter-style neckline that gives way to a racerback at the rear. It has a cropped length and wide waistband that can be adjusted and tied at the side of the waist, the tie then draping down the side over the hips. The incredible, hip-hugging skirt is cut with a high-waist that sits under the top. It has a dramatic fishtail cut which becomes a graceful, floor-sweeping train at the back of the dress. The skirt fastens at the rear with a hidden hook-and-eye clasp and off-white zip with angular pull. Both pieces are unlined.
Made in France, the ensemble is in excellent vintage condition. On close inspection we noticed two tiny nicks in the fabric of the top; however, these get hidden in the folds of the fabric when worn. The iconic blue label reads “Thierry Mugler COUTURE”. The fabric and size labels have been removed so please check our measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We believe it would best fit a size UK 6-8 or US 2-4. Adjustments can be made to the positioning of the halterneck bust along the wide waistband if desired; they are currently set very close together.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?
We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.
We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.
We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.
You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.
Do you have a price range?
Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.
Can I bring anyone with me?
