1980s Franco Moschino Black Shirt with Novelty Gold Safety Pins
This rare, novelty black shirt was designed by founder, Franco Moschino, during the early years of his eponymous label. Moschino liked to make a statement and push ideas to their extreme often making fun of other fashion houses; this shirt is imbued with his unique and irreverent sense of humour. It almost certainly dates to the period 1986 to 1988 and we have attached an image of a dress featuring heavy safety pin embellishment from Moschino's 1988 book Moschino x Anni di Kaos. The safety pin became a trademark detail of the fashion house and these designs continue to be reinterpreted in more modern collections.
Tailored from black cotton, it has an elongated silhouette with vents at the back, for ease of movement. The cuffs are long and are each secured with two dark brown buttons engraved with the brand name. The front of the shirt is secured with coordinating buttons which are hidden under a placket. Adorned with hundreds of gold-tone safety pins across the chest and dotted on the collar, they form a protective, armour-like finish across the chest. It must have taken many hours to do this work as each pin has been attached by hand. The shirt is finished with the tricolour Moschino logo tag on the sleeve denoting an early piece and is unlined.
Moschino Jeans was launched in 1986 by Franco Moschino and the line focused on high quality, well constructed denim garments and shirts. We consider this to be an archival piece and worthy of collection. The shirt is in very good vintage condition with some very gentle wash fade that has been exaggerated by our harsh studio lighting. We have darned a very small 3mm hole on the collar. Labelled a men's size small please check the measurements below; the fabric has no stretch.

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.
We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.
We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.
You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.
Do you have a price range?
Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.
