1992 Runway Documented Jean Paul Gaultier Black Pinstripe Jacket

£995.00

This well documented Jean Paul Gaultier jacket is a rare find and walked the runway in two colourways for the designer’s Fall 1992 collection as part of what is arguably the label’s most lauded era. A standout design which echos the sharp tailoring of the late 1930s and early 1940s, the deliberate and unfinished detailing shows the incredible workmanship behind this label. Tailored from smooth black wool with a hint of stretch, it is finished with tiny white pinstripes formed using running stitch. The hems are detailed with a thicker running stitch. There is a welt pocket at the chest and two sealed flap pockets on the hips - all outlined in this thick white stitch. The sheer plastic lapels act like a window through to the 'hidden' tailoring of the jacket; with a partial and mottled pin-stripe coating to the reverse of the lapel. The back of the torso is lined in burgundy satin and vibrant emerald green satin inside the sleeves. The front of the jacket is detailed with eight black plastic buttons with small silver-tone metal rivets in the centre. It can be buttoned up for a different look which reveals the back of the collar and its grey felt construction. The cuffs fasten with five smaller versions of the black plastic buttons, and it comes with two spare buttons still attached at the label. At the back of the neck on the exterior is a hanging tag in coordinating pinstripe cloth - a detail Gaultier was known for during this time.

This jacket is presented in excellent vintage condition with no issues of any note. It is labelled a French size 40, UK 12 or US 8 but vintage sizes vary and this may be better suited to a size smaller - UK 10 or US 6. The outer fabric is 88% Wool, 8% Rayon, 4% Elastane. The lapel is 100% Plastic.

F.A.Q.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?

We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.

We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.

We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.

You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.

Do you have a price range?

Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.

Can I bring anyone with me?

Yes but please do let us know the size of your party in advance.

Where can I get alterations?

We offer some alterations in house. Should you need alterations we cannot provide, we can refer you to one of our tried and trusted tailors.

Do you have an after-care service?

We will advise you on the best way to clean and preserve your vintage pieces and can also recommend trusted local dry cleaners.

Can I cancel my appointment?

You are free to cancel but please do give us as much notice as possible. If you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment, you will be invoiced a late cancellation fee of £25.
