ARCHIVE - 1950s White Cotton Organza Strapless Wedding Dress
This French made 1950s wedding dress is crafted from a fine quality, white cotton organza. Tailored to a classic ‘50s silhouette with a nipped-in waist and full skirt which swirls around the legs and finishes around the bottom of the calf to ankle depending on the height of the wearer. The outer layer of sheer organza is detailed with botanical embroidery. Subtle cut-outs in the embroidered leaves add pretty detail. The neckline is straight-across and strapless and finished with a folded-over layer of sheer organza which sits almost like a collar. This dress is fully lined in white cotton and it fastens at the rear with a hidden tonal white zip.
The dress presents beautifully and is in very good, restored condition. We have carefully washed the dress by hand and stain treated it so that it is Snow White hue with no markings. The zip was replaced in our atelier by hand. We have also carried out some repairs to the organza; there is a vertical repair on the back which gets hidden in the folds of the skirt and one towards the bottom of the skirt. These repairs have all been done by our couture trained seamstress. The whitework is in excellent condition.
Truly a gem for a laid-back summer bride, these organza dresses are increasingly difficult to find from this era. Unlabelled but a well made dress by a professional hand, probably from a couture atelier. There is no size or composition label, so please check the below measurements carefully. Our model is a UK 6-8, US 2-4 and 5ft 4in. (163 cm); this dress fit her well on the waist but was big on the bust, we taped this down for a better fit. Our suggestion is a UK 8 or US 4 with a slim waist - there is plenty of room on the hip.

Will you set anything aside for me before I come?
We are happy to find anything you may be interested in from our website - please let us know a week in advance.
We also have an extensive offline collection. If you let us know your size, style, favourite colour to wear and perhaps your budget, we can browse through our archive in advance of your appointment.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
Clients may wish to bring modern shapewear when trying on garments from certain eras, especially the 1950s. Vintage clothing was often worn with undergarments that shaped the waist and as such is tailored for them.
We have a huge variety of slip dresses and petticoats to complete your look; many of which are also for sale.
You may also wish to bring your favourite footwear. We often find a classic pair of nude shoes work well when trying on, or a pair in gold or silver.
Do you have a price range?
Many of our lower-priced pieces (under £150) are not available to buy online. Our prices range from £80 - £600 for separates. Dresses start at around £150 and go up to £2,500 for the very best antique pieces and designer vintage. Our bridalwear ranges from £300 - £3,000.
Can I bring anyone with me?
